THE KITCHEN · OUR CUSTOM CABINET WORK
A STORY FROM OUR WORK
A contractor I had done considerable cabinet work for called me one day with a challenge. Four companies had looked at the project, and none had figured out how to build what the homeowner wanted.
The homeowner owned an antique store in downtown Dallas. He had a credenza from the 1800s in his store, and he wanted his kitchen cabinets to match it.
The challenge was in the doors. Their shapes and carved details couldn’t be recreated simply by running material through standard cabinet machinery. They needed a combination of machine work and hand carving.
Coming from a family of carpenters, I was willing to take it on. We machined the portions we could and carved the remaining details by hand, recreating the character of the antique for his kitchen.
The result was a set of one-of-a-kind doors made specifically for his home. It remains one of my favorite cabinet projects—not because that style is for everyone, but because it was exactly what he wanted.
